Okay, so, I’ve been seeing this “Seven Easy Pieces” thing from Donna Karan pop up everywhere lately. It’s supposed to be, like, this revolutionary idea from the 80s, but it sounds pretty basic, right? A bodysuit, a skirt, some pants… I mean, come on. But everyone’s talking about how it’s this amazing minimalist wardrobe, so I figured I’d give it a shot. I’m all about that easy, breezy life, so if I can get away with just seven things in my closet, I’m down.
First thing I did was dig through my closet. I found a black bodysuit that I’ve had forever. It’s a little faded, but whatever, it works. Then I grabbed a simple black wrap skirt. Easy enough. I also pulled out a pair of black trousers that I actually really like. They’re comfy and go with everything. So far, so good. I was feeling pretty confident at this point.

Next up was supposed to be a suede jacket, according to what I read. I don’t have a suede jacket, but I did find a black leather jacket that’s pretty similar, I guess. A little edgier, but it’ll do. Then I needed something “tailored.” I ended up grabbing a white button-down shirt. It’s a classic, and I figured it would work with the other pieces. And, after looking around some more, I managed to find a black scarf and a black belt. I think those are considered accessories, but whatever, they’re part of the whole “look.”

Mixing and Matching
So, with my seven (or nine, whatever) pieces assembled, I started mixing and matching. I tried the bodysuit with the skirt, the trousers with the shirt, the jacket with everything… It was actually kind of fun. I felt like I was in one of those old-school fashion shows or something. And you know what? It actually worked pretty well. I could see how you could make a bunch of different outfits with just these few things. I mean, I wouldn’t wear this to a wedding or anything, but for everyday stuff, it’s pretty solid.
Honestly, I was surprised. I thought this whole “Seven Easy Pieces” thing was just some old-fashioned hype, but it actually kind of makes sense. It’s not going to change my life or anything, but it’s a good reminder that you don’t need a ton of clothes to look good. I might even try to incorporate this idea into my wardrobe a little more. Who knows, maybe I’ll become one of those minimalist people. Probably not, but it’s a nice thought.
