Okay, so, I’ve been diving into this whole Miss Universe costume thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride! I started with absolutely zero ideas, just a big empty space where creativity should be.
First, I browsed lots of stuff online. Gosh, those national costumes are something else! Like, Miss Vietnam, she’s got this crazy woven basket thing going on. It’s nuts! And this year, they had the show in New Orleans, Louisiana which is the 71st time they did this whole thing.
Then I started to check some hot news. I saw this video on YouTube, all about Miss Philippines, Chelsea Manalo, winning the best national costume. I watched it and thought “This is big.” Then I dug deeper. I read about Miss Zimbabwe, Sakhile Dube, and her costume for this year. They call it “The Soaring Eagle,” and it’s supposed to represent the country’s majesty and heritage. Sounds pretty cool, right?
I’ve started sketching, throwing down ideas on paper. It was messy at first, just a bunch of random lines and shapes. Slowly, I could see a few patterns emerging. I kept refining, trying to capture the essence of what I saw. Colors, shapes, fabrics… I was basically juggling all these elements in my head.
I made a draft. Took me a whole week to get the first draft done. I was so nervous to share it with my friends, worried they’d think it was too out there. But they loved it! Their feedback was super helpful, too. They pointed out things I hadn’t even considered, which was exactly what I needed.
Next, I revised and started crafting the actual costume. It was tough, I made a few mistakes along the way, and it got frustrating at times. But I kept going, fueled by coffee and sheer determination. I had to learn new skills, like sewing and working with different materials. It was a huge learning curve, but so rewarding.
After some long nights, it’s finally starting to come together. It’s not perfect, of course, but it’s mine. I’ve poured my heart and soul into this thing, and I’m actually pretty proud of how it’s turning out.
It’s been an amazing journey, really. I’ve learned so much about design, about crafting, and about myself. And the best part? I’ve got a killer costume to show for it! Who knows, maybe I’ll even try to submit it to one of those online contests. Wish me luck!
