So I’ve been seeing these Rick Owens shoes everywhere lately, and I gotta say, I’m kind of obsessed. They’ve got this edgy, kind of futuristic vibe that I’m really digging. I mean, I don’t have any money to buy them, so I decided to try and make a pair myself. Yeah, it sounds crazy, but I was feeling adventurous.
First things first, I needed to figure out what materials I could use. Rick Owens, apparently, uses all this fancy stuff like leather, silk, and even fur. I definitely wasn’t about to start using real fur, and my budget was more like, uh, zero dollars. So I looked around the house to see what I could find. I found an old pair of high-top sneakers that I never wear anymore, which would be my base. And some scraps of black fabric, maybe an old shirt that would work for the details.
The Design Plan
- Base: Old high-top sneakers.
- Details: Scraps of black fabric, some black string to simulate the shoe laces.
I started by taking apart the sneakers, carefully removing the laces and the tongue. I wanted to extend the tongue to make it super long, like the Geobaskets. Then, I grabbed the black fabric and started cutting and wrapping. I used some glue I found in my toolbox, it was probably meant for fixing furniture, but hey, it worked! I wrapped the fabric around the tongue and secured it with the glue, making sure it was nice and tight.
The next part was a bit tricky. I wanted to add some extra panels to the sides of the sneakers to give them that signature Rick Owens look. I cut out some more fabric and started gluing them to the sides. It was a bit messy, and the fabric kept bunching up, but I just kept at it. I even used some old shoelaces to create some extra details, wrapping them around the ankle area.
After hours of gluing, cutting, and a lot of hoping for the best, I finally finished. And you know what? They actually didn’t look half bad! Sure, they weren’t perfect, and they definitely wouldn’t fool anyone into thinking they were real Rick Owens. But they had that same kind of edgy, oversized look that I was going for.
I wore them around the house for a while, just to see how they felt. They were surprisingly comfortable, considering they were made from an old pair of sneakers and some random fabric. I even got a few compliments from my family, which was a nice bonus.
So, yeah, that’s the story of how I made my own Rick Owens inspired shoes. It was a fun little project, and it definitely satisfied my craving for those cool sneakers. Maybe one day I’ll be able to afford the real deal, but for now, I’m pretty happy with my homemade version.
