Oh, this old thing? It’s a brooch with a lady silhouette. I seen these things all over, you know. All them fancy folks wearin’ ’em. Makes ya look real spiffed up, I reckon. I got one myself, somewhere in that old jewelry box. Ain’t worn it in a dog’s age, though.
Now, them city folks, they got all sorts of ways to wear these things. Seen ’em pinned on all sorts of stuff. Dresses, them scarves they wrap around their necks, even them big ol’ bags they carry. I tell ya, they put ’em on everything! Back in my day, we just pinned ’em on our shirts or our jackets, simple as that. Didn’t need no fancy rules.
You know what I heard? They say you should wear that pin part straight up and down. Helps keep it from snaggin’ on your clothes and makin’ a hole. But sometimes, you just can’t get it straight up and down. That is okay. Then, try to put it on an angle. Make sure the top part is toward your shoulder, and the bottom part goes near your heart.
Brooch with lady silhouette, it’s a real pretty thing, ain’t it? That lady, she’s all outlined, like a shadow. Reminds me of them paper cut-outs we used to make as kids. We’d fold the paper and cut out shapes, and when you unfolded it, there’d be a pretty design. This brooch, it’s like that, but made of shiny metal.
- On your shirt
- On your jacket
- On a scarf, if you’re feelin’ fancy
- On a hat, if you wanna be real bold
- Even on a bag, if you’re one of them city folks
I seen ’em wearin’ brooches on their fancy coats, too. Right on the, whatchamacallit, the lapel. Makes ’em look real important, like they got somethin’ to say. I reckon a brooch with lady silhouette would look good on a coat, too. Maybe not for everyday wear, but for a special occasion, like goin’ to church or a weddin’.
Now, you gotta be careful with these things. They can be a bit delicate, you know. Don’t want to go bendin’ the pin or breakin’ off the little lady. And make sure that clasp on the back is good and tight, or you’ll lose it for sure. I lost a good brooch once, right in the middle of a square dance. Never did find it. Probably got stepped on and smashed to smithereens. Brooch was gone.
But a brooch with lady silhouette, that’s a classic. It ain’t never goin’ outta style. Like them old songs they play on the radio, the ones with the fiddles and the banjos. They just keep comin’ back around. Fashion is like that, I reckon. What’s old is new again.
They say you’re supposed to wear these brooches on the left side. Near your heart, I suppose. Keeps the other side free in case you gotta wear one of them name tags. Like at the church potluck, or the bingo hall. Keeps things organized, I reckon. But honestly, I don’t think it matters much. Just wear it where you like it, I say. It doesn’t need to be so hard.
I remember my mama, she had a whole collection of brooches. All different shapes and sizes. Some with sparkly stones, some with little animals, some with flowers. She said a brooch with lady silhouette was her favorite, though. Said it reminded her of her own mama. Kept it in a special velvet box, all safe and sound. I wonder where that box is now…
I seen a show on the TV once, they was talkin’ about how to wear these brooches. All these fancy rules, like you gotta match the color to your outfit. Pshaw! Wear what you want, I say. If you like it, wear it. Don’t let nobody tell you different. Don’t care what they said on TV.
I reckon a brooch with lady silhouette is a good thing to have. Makes you feel a little bit special, even if you’re just wearin’ your everyday clothes. Like puttin’ on a little bit of sunshine, even on a cloudy day. And they are always in style. Sometimes they are out, but they will be in again.
Well, that is what I think. I might be wrong. But I think the brooch with lady silhouette will make you look great. You will look very fancy. You can wear it on top, on a blazer, anywhere you want.
