Ok, so, you got this… this thing, a “brooch,” they call it. Fancy name for a shiny little somethin’. My granddaughter, she gave it to me. Said it’s for makin’ my clothes look, you know, “better.” Like my clothes need help! But alright, alright, I’ll play along. She showed me some pictures, magazines and stuff, so I kinda get the idea. This here’s how I figure you can wear it, this brooch thing.
First off, you can stick it on your dress. Yeah, right on the front, like a shiny button but way fancier. Makes it look less plain, I guess. Specially if your dress is just one color, like that plain blue one I got. A little sparkle there, why not? My grandaughter she says if you got a nice dress, like for a wedding or somethin’, the brooch makes it even nicer. Says it adds “elegance”. Big words these city folks use. Means it looks good, I reckon.
- Pin it on the top, near your shoulder.
- Or maybe in the middle, you know, where your chest is.
- If your dress has a belt or somethin’, stick it there too.
Now, you don’t always gotta put it on a dress. My grandaughter, she showed me pictures. You can put it on a scarf, too. You know, them long cloth things you wrap around your neck when it’s cold. Makes it look… well, not just a scarf anymore. More like you put some thought into it, even if you didn’t! Heh! Just pin it on there, hold the scarf together and lookin’ spiffy. My grandaughter she pinned it on the side but I reckon you could pin it anywhere so long as it stays and don’t fall off. And she says if you got a plain coat, the kind everybody wears when it snows, you stick this brooch on and it looks like new. Like magic!
And get this, you can even put it on a hat! Now, I don’t wear hats much, unless it’s sunny and I gotta work in the garden. But those fancy ladies in the pictures, they wear hats all the time, seems like. And a brooch on a hat? Makes it look real… I dunno, “sophisticated,” my grandaughter calls it. Like you’re somebody important, maybe. If you wanna feel fancy, stick that brooch on a hat. My grandaughter says if you going to a church or some kind of tea party a hat and brooch is the way to go. I told her I ain’t been to no tea party, but I will stick it on my old sun hat and feel like the queen of my tomato patch.
But here’s the thing, you gotta be careful. Don’t just stick it anywhere. You don’t want it pokin’ you or falling off and gettin’ lost. My grandaughter says you got to make sure the pin is closed good and tight or you losing that brooch before you even leave the house. And you gotta think about the color, too. If your dress is red, maybe a gold brooch looks nice. If it’s blue, maybe silver. Just gotta use your eyes, you know? My grandaughter said I had to “coordinate” but I told her I ain’t got time for that nonsense, if it looks good, it looks good. And if it don’t, well, I will just take it off. Ain’t rocket science.
And don’t go overboard, you hear? One brooch is enough. Don’t need to look like a Christmas tree, all sparkly and cluttered. My grandaughter said less is more and I reckon she’s right. Just a little somethin’ to make you feel a little bit special, that’s all. My grandaughter says the brooch should help you make a statement so I figure I will make a statement that says I am too old for this fuss but I love my granddaughter. Anyway, that’s what I think about this brooch thing. It’s alright, I guess. Makes an old woman’s clothes look a little less… old.
So, there you have it. You got a brooch? Stick it on somethin’. Dress, scarf, hat… Just don’t stick it on the dog, okay? Dogs don’t need no brooches.
