Well, lemme tell ya about brooches and pins. These little things, they been around forever, it seems. My own mama, bless her soul, she had a whole box of ’em. Sparkly ones, plain ones, you name it.
Brooches and Pins, What’s the Difference?
So, brooches, they’re the bigger ones, usually. More fancy-like. Pins, they’re smaller, simpler. Like the one I use to keep my shawl together. But some folks use the words any which way. Don’t get hung up on it, I say.
Now, I ain’t no expert, but I seen a lot of these things in my time. Some of ’em, they’re real old. Passed down through families, like heirlooms. That’s what they call ’em, heirlooms. Fancy word for old stuff that’s special.
How to Wear a Brooch
- Put it on your left – That’s what they all say. Left side, near your heart. Like the soldiers wear their medals.
- Keep it straight up and down – If you can, pin it straight. Less chance of it snaggin’ on somethin’. If ya can’t, tilt the top out towards your shoulder.
- Don’t be scared to try new things – You can put ’em on scarves, hats, even your purse if you want.
Wearin’ a brooch is like addin’ a little somethin’ extra to your outfit. Makes ya feel a bit dressed up, even if you’re just wearin’ your everyday clothes.
Brooches for Men, Too
And don’t think these are just for the ladies. Men wear ’em too, sometimes. Seen some fellas with ’em on their suits. Makes ’em look real spiffy, I gotta say. They put them on them fancy Indian clothes, sherwanis or somethin’. Look real good, it does.
If a man’s gonna wear a brooch, he should do it with some confidence. Own it, ya know? Don’t be shy about it. It’s just a little somethin’ to show your style. Some of them men, they pin them on the left, too. Just like the women.
Old Brooches are Worth More
If you got some old brooches, they might be worth somethin’. The older, the better, usually. And if they’re from a long time ago, like them olden days, they can be worth a pretty penny.
I remember this one brooch my grandma had. It was a flower, with little shiny stones in it. She always said it was real special. Said it was from some queen or somethin’. Don’t know if that’s true, but it sure was pretty.
Where to Put Your Brooch
Most of the time, you see folks wearin’ ’em on their shirt or jacket. Near the top, on the left side. That’s the usual place. But you can put ’em other places too.
I seen a lady once, she had a whole bunch of brooches on her hat. Looked real interestin’, it did. Like a garden on her head. Another time, I saw a woman with one on her scarf. Held it together real nice, and looked pretty too.
So you see, you can put ’em just about anywhere you like. Just use your imagination. And don’t be afraid to try somethin’ new. That’s what I always say.
Brooches and pins, they’re like little treasures. Each one’s got a story, I reckon. Even the plain ones. They might not look like much, but they been around. They seen things.
I got this one pin, it’s just a little bird. Nothin’ fancy. But I like it. Reminds me of the birds that come to my feeder in the winter. Cheery little things, they are.
So next time you see a brooch or a pin, take a closer look. Think about who might have worn it before. Think about the stories it could tell. You might be surprised what you discover. And maybe you will know how to style a brooch.
These little things, they got more to ’em than meets the eye. Just like people, I suppose. We all got our stories, don’t we? Some are shiny and some are plain, but they’re all worth somethin’. Every single one. Wearing brooches can make you happy. You know it now.
