Alright, let’s gab a bit about that Carolyn Bessette Kennedy’s wedding ring, you know, the one that gal got when she hitched up with John F. Kennedy Jr. Folks made such a fuss about it, so I figured, why not chew the fat over it a spell?
The Ring Itself, Ya Know
Now, this weren’t no ordinary ring, no sirree. John, he gave Carolyn this eternity band thingy in 1995. They say it was kinda like his mama Jackie’s “swimming ring.” Jackie’s was gold with emeralds, a gift from some fancy jeweler fella, Maurice Tempelsman, I think they called him. Carolyn’s, though, that was somethin’ else. It had these oval-shaped diamonds and sapphires all the way around. Must’ve cost a pretty penny, I reckon.
- Diamonds and Sapphires: Not just plain old diamonds, mind you, but with sapphires too. Made it real sparkly, I bet.
- Eternity Band: That means the diamonds and sapphires went all the way around, no breakin’ the circle. Like, forever and ever, you get it?
- Oval-Shaped: Not your pointy diamonds, but roundish, like little eggs. Fancy, huh?
Why Rings Anyway?
You ever wonder why folks wear rings when they get hitched? Well, it goes way back, they say. Even them ancient Egyptians did it. They thought there was this vein, the “vena amoris” they called it, that went straight from your ring finger to your heart. Lovey-dovey stuff, I tell ya. So, when you put a ring on that finger, it’s like you’re connectin’ your heart to the other person’s. At least, that’s the story they tell.
Jackie’s Ring and All That
Now, Jackie, she had her ring fixed up after a while, and she didn’t go flashin’ it around. Kept it kinda private. These days, that ring’s sittin’ in some museum in Boston, the John F. Kennedy somethin’ somethin’ Library. They take it out and show it off sometimes, I hear.
What Them Rings Mean, Ya Know?
Wedding rings, they’re supposed to be about love that lasts forever, that whole “til death do us part” thing. When them two folks get hitched, they give each other rings, showin’ the world they’re hitched up proper.
Carolyn’s Ring, All That Sparkle
Carolyn’s ring, it had this big ol’ emerald-cut diamond in the middle. Emerald-cut means it’s kinda square-ish, not round, with all these little flat parts that make it shine real good. People went gaga over it, I tell ya. And that weddin’ of hers to John F. Kennedy Jr. in 1996? Lordy, everyone was watchin’.
More Than Just the Ring
Now, folks weren’t just lookin’ at that ring, no sir. Carolyn, she had this dress, made by some fella named Narciso Rodriguez. Folks talked about that dress just as much as the ring, maybe more. But we’re here to talk about the ring, ain’t we?
The Wedding, Big To-Do
That wedding, it was a real big deal. September 21, 1996. Everyone wanted to see what Carolyn was wearin’, what John was doin’, and of course, that ring. It was all over the news, pictures everywhere. A real fairytale weddin’, they said. Though, life ain’t always no fairytale, is it?
That Emerald Cut, Real Pretty
That emerald cut, it weren’t just some shape, you know. It had meanin’, they say. Symbolized somethin’ deep and special. Rectangular, with all them little steps, makin’ the light bounce around real nice. Not flashy like some of them other cuts, but classy, elegant, you get it?
So, There You Have It
So, that’s the lowdown on Carolyn Bessette Kennedy’s weddin’ ring, as best as I can tell ya. A fancy ring for a fancy lady, hitched up to a famous fella. Lots of sparkle, lots of talk, and a whole lotta history behind it all. A ring’s just a ring, I reckon, but it sure can tell a story, can’t it?
