Okay, so I wanted to try to watch pixelated videos today. I thought it might be cool. Or maybe just a waste of time. Anyways, I decided to give it a shot.
First, I needed to figure out how to actually make a video pixelated. I remembered that there are tools out there that can do this. I recalled seeing something about Adobe After Effects having a feature for this kinda stuff. After Effects can handle this kind of task, which is good.
So I opened up After Effects. I imported the video I wanted to mess with. I had to find the “Remove Grain” feature. I fiddled around with the settings. It wasn’t too hard to get the video to look all blocky and pixelated, just like the old-school video games.

- Adjust settings to pixelate
I also tried something else. There’s this thing about using AI to fix up videos. Maybe AI could also make them look worse? I messed around with Photoshop too. I opened up an image, and just resized it a few times, making it smaller and then bigger again. Photoshop has some AI stuff built-in, so it tries to guess what the pixels should look like when you resize things. It worked to make the image look kinda pixelated, but not as good as After Effects.
After all that, I got a pretty pixelated video. It looked kinda cool, in a retro way. I guess it’s not for everyone, but I had fun messing around with it. It was pretty simple to do, once I found the right tools. I guess it’s good to know how to do this, just in case you ever need a video to look like that for some reason. Like, maybe you’re making a game or something and want that old-school vibe.
In the end, it wasn’t a total waste of time. I learned something new, and it was a good way to spend an afternoon, playing around with software.
