Okay, so the other day I was thinking about getting myself a little something special, you know, a treat. And what’s better than an antique Porsche convertible? Nothing, that’s what. So I started poking around online.
First, I hit up this site called “Bring a Trailer Auctions”. Seems like they’ve got a good rep for selling these old beauties. Porsches, BMWs, Land Rovers, you name it. Browsed around for a bit, saw some nice rides, but nothing that really screamed “me” just yet.
Then, I figured I’d try a more, uh, “official” route. Went to one of those websites where you can find new and used Porsches. Typed in my location, started scrolling through the offers. They made it super easy to find your “dream Porsche”, they said. Yeah, right. Mostly saw a bunch of those Taycan things, all about charging solutions and whatnot. Not my cup of tea.
Next, I moved on to this “ClassicCars” site. Lots of old cars for sale there, over 4,000 they claimed. Model As, Model Ts, all that jazz. Found a few Porsches in the mix, but still wasn’t feeling that “gotta have it” vibe, you know?
Spotted this one ad for a 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S coupe. Looked pretty sweet, I gotta admit. The guy selling it had just bought it himself on that “BaT” site a few months back. Why’s he flipping it so soon? Something fishy about that, maybe?
Anyways, after that, I went down a bit of a rabbit hole on these Porsche forums, “Pelican Parts” or something. Bunch of folks on there were debating paint codes for some “Sport Classic” model. Got way too technical for me, honestly. I just want a cool car, not a PhD in paint.
Finally, I ended up on these sites called “NADAguides” and “Kelley Blue Book”. I remembered my dad used to use KBB to check car prices back in the day. Figured they might give me a sense of what these old Porsches are going for. Turns out, they both have their own way of figuring out car values. More numbers to crunch, ugh. Started seeing some “Nada Value” and “Blue Book Value” stuff, it was a lot to take in.
So, after all that digging around, I haven’t exactly found my dream convertible yet. But hey, the search is half the fun, right? And who knows, maybe that perfect vintage Porsche is just waiting for me around the corner.
I will keep up my search and hopefully, I can get my car soon!
