Okay, so I’ve been messing around with some design stuff lately, and I wanted to share this little project I did with a pair of Vans. I was aiming for a kind of chill, laid-back vibe, and I thought, why not try out a teal and grey color combo? It’s not something you see every day, right?

So, first, I grabbed a pair of plain white Vans. I just went online and found a basic pair that wasn’t too expensive. Nothing fancy, just your standard canvas shoes. Then, I headed over to Pinterest to get some inspiration. I just typed in “teal vans” and started scrolling through the images. There were tons of cool ideas, like people who had painted their shoes, added patches, and all sorts of stuff. It got my creative juices flowing.
- Gathering Supplies:
- Plain white Vans
- Teal and grey fabric paint
- Paintbrushes (various sizes)
- Painter’s tape
- A cup of water (for cleaning brushes)
- Paper towels (for any spills)
Next, I picked up some teal and grey fabric paint. I made sure to get fabric paint, not just regular acrylics, because I wanted the color to stick and not crack when I walked. I also got some different sized paintbrushes – a couple of thin ones for details and a wider one for covering larger areas. Oh, and some painter’s tape, that blue stuff. It came in handy later.
Before I started painting, I stuffed the shoes with some old newspapers. This helped them keep their shape and gave me a firmer surface to work on. Then, I used that painter’s tape to section off the parts of the shoe I didn’t want to paint yet. I wanted to do the grey parts first, so I taped around the areas I planned to make teal.
Painting Process
I started with the grey. I carefully painted the untaped sections, making sure to get an even coat. It took a couple of layers to get the shade I wanted, but I made sure each layer was dry before adding the next. Patience is key, you know? Once the grey was dry, I peeled off the tape and did the same thing for the teal parts. This time, I taped over the grey areas to protect them.
After all the painting was done, I let the shoes dry for a good 24 hours, just to be safe. I didn’t want to risk messing them up after all that work. Then I removed all the newspaper from inside.

And there you have it – my custom teal and grey Vans! They’re not perfect, but I’m pretty happy with how they turned out. It was a fun little project, and now I have a unique pair of shoes that I can show off. Plus, it was way cheaper than buying a custom-designed pair online. I might try some other color combos in the future, maybe something with a bit more pop. Who knows? The possibilities are endless!
So yeah, that’s my little shoe adventure. It is not a big deal, just a bit of fun. If you’re thinking about trying something similar, just go for it! It’s a great way to express your creativity and end up with something totally unique. Just remember to have fun and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. That’s all part of the process!
