Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this new Seiko diver, the SPB453. Yeah, the name isn’t going to win any awards, but whatever, let’s get into it.
First off, I was reading up on this thing, and apparently, it’s part of a new line that kinda makes some older models obsolete. Progress, I guess? Anyways, I got my hands on one and started playing around with it.
One of the first things I noticed was the date window. They moved it to 4:30. I actually dig it. It’s got a black background and it’s designed in a good way that was easy to read.
Now, this SPB453 is part of a trio, and they are all dive watches. I did some searching around and learned that Seiko’s calling them “24MAS divers.” I think there are two others, the SPB451 and the SPB455. They’re all automatic, which is cool. I got the SPB453.
After wearing it for a few days, I found out that they’ve tweaked the size a bit on these new models. I think they made it smaller, but don’t quote me on that. The changes are supposed to be subtle. It looks better than before, though.
My Experience and Thoughts
So, here’s how it went down. I got the watch, sized the bracelet, and started wearing it. It felt great on the wrist.
- Unboxing: Pretty standard Seiko deal. Nice box, watch inside, you know the drill.
- Wearing it: I wore it everywhere. To the grocery store, to the gym, even just around the house. It’s comfortable, no complaints there.
- Playing with the features: I messed around with the bezel, set the time, the usual stuff. Everything felt solid and worked as it should.
- Using the Date Window: It’s cool where it’s positioned. Very readable, very clean.
The date window at 4:30 is definitely a winner. I was worried it would be weird, but it’s not. And the black background makes the white numbers really pop. Also, the overall size is perfect for my wrist. Not too big, not too small. It’s a great fit.
So, after messing around with the SPB453 for a while, I’m pretty impressed. It’s a solid watch, it looks good, and it feels good. If you’re in the market for a new diver, you might want to check it out.
