Recently, I was totally into those huge flower brooches I saw online. You know, the ones that are like, super oversized and dramatic? I’ve always been a fan of brooches, but these were next level. So, I thought, why not try to make one myself? It seemed like a fun project, and I could totally customize it to my liking.
First things first, I needed to gather some materials. I rummaged through my craft supplies and found some pieces of organza and satin fabric in a creamy white color that I thought would be perfect. I also grabbed some felt for the base, a brooch pin, some thread, and a needle. I don’t have a hot glue gun at home. I think it is too dangerous. Oh, and of course, a pair of scissors.
Next up, I started working on the petals. I wanted a rose-like look, so I cut out a bunch of petal shapes from the organza and satin. I made them in different sizes, with the outer petals being the largest. To give them a more realistic look, I gently singed the edges of each petal with a lighter. This curled them up a bit and gave them a nice, organic shape. Be careful if you do this at home. Just don’t burn yourself. It’s not worth it.
Once I had all my petals ready, I started assembling the flower. I started with the felt base and began sewing the smallest petals in the center, layering them to create the inner bud. As I moved outward, I used bigger and bigger petals, overlapping them to build up the flower’s shape. It was a bit time-consuming, but I put on some music and just enjoyed the process.

After a few hours, my giant flower brooch was finally done! It turned out even better than I had imagined. It’s huge, about 8 inches across, and it looks so elegant and dramatic. I’ve worn it a few times already, and I always get tons of compliments. It’s such a statement piece, and it really elevates any outfit. I can use it for a wedding or a party.
I’m so glad I decided to try making this brooch. It was a fun and rewarding project, and I ended up with a beautiful, one-of-a-kind accessory. I definitely need to use the organza next time, since it is more elegant. If you’re thinking about trying to make your own, I say go for it!
