Okay, so I’ve been messing around with different makeup looks for winter, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. As the winter chill sets in, my skin always gets super dry and tight, so anything I put on it just ends up looking cakey or gritty. Not cute. I figured, what’s the point of even trying if my face is going to be a flaky mess? But then I thought, screw it, I love makeup, and I’m not going to let the cold weather stop me.

Skincare Prep
First thing I did was up my skincare game. I started looking for makeup products that were specifically made for dry skin, you know, with oils, waxes, and silicones. I learned these ingredients can help keep skin hydrated, unlike summer’s no-makeup makeup days. I used a really hydrating moisturizer and even mixed a drop of facial oil into my foundation. I also made sure to exfoliate a couple of times a week to get rid of any dead skin. I used creamy and liquid foundations.
Base Makeup
For my base, I used a creamy foundation and I made sure to blend it really well, especially around my nose and mouth where I tend to get the most dry patches. I also used a hydrating concealer under my eyes and on any blemishes.
Eyes
Then I moved on to eyes. I really wanted to try out those frosty blue eyeshadows that are apparently all the rage this winter. I started with a light blue shade all over my lid and then added a darker blue to the outer corners to give it some dimension. I also used a white eyeliner on my waterline to make my eyes look bigger and brighter. I didn’t go for a winged liner this time, but smoky eyes are also possible, make sure to keep your lips bright. I’m not brave enough for a full-on glitter look, so I just added a tiny bit of silver shimmer to the inner corners of my eyes. I curled my lashes and put on a couple of coats of mascara. And, of course, I filled in my brows with a brow pencil to frame my face.
Cheeks & Lips
For cheeks, I went with a warm, glowing blush. I also used a highlighter on my cheekbones, brow bone, and the tip of my nose. I’ve been seeing those bold berry lips everywhere, so I decided to give it a shot. I lined my lips with a dark red lip liner and then filled them in with a matte berry lipstick. It was a bit out of my comfort zone, but I actually ended up liking it.
Setting
Finally, I set everything with a hydrating setting spray to make sure it would last all day and not turn into a flaky disaster.
Overall, I was pretty happy with how it turned out! It definitely took some trial and error, but I think I finally figured out a winter makeup routine that works for me and my dry skin. This winter, let your creativity shine through your face makeup choices, whether you opt for bold berry lips, frosted eyes, or glowing skin.
