Alright, listen up, y’all. Gonna talk about this “vote or die” thing. Sounds kinda scary, right? Like somethin’ outta one of them movies where folks wear capes and fly around. But it ain’t about that. It’s about…well, it’s about pickin’ who gets to boss us around.
Now, I ain’t no fancy politician or nothin’. Just an old woman who’s seen a thing or two. And let me tell ya, seein’ things change is important. You gotta speak up if you want things different, and votin’ is one way to do that. It’s like pickin’ which rooster gets to rule the henhouse, ya know? You want a rooster that ain’t gonna peck your chickens all day, right?
Some folks, they say, “My vote don’t matter.” They say, “It’s all rigged anyway.” Well, I say, that’s just hogwash! If everyone thought like that, we’d be stuck with the same old grumpy rooster forever. If ya don’t vote, then you don’t get to complain when things go south. It’s like sittin’ at the dinner table and not sayin’ you’re hungry, then complainin’ you didn’t get fed.
They say lots of folks, millions of ‘em, don’t even bother goin’ to vote. Seventy-five million, they say! That’s a whole lotta folks just sittin’ on their hands. Maybe they’re too busy, or maybe they just don’t care. But I think it’s more than that. I think some folks just feel…lost. Like their voice don’t count for nothin’. Like nobody’s listenin’.
And maybe sometimes that’s true. Maybe sometimes them politicians, they get too big for their britches. They forget who put ‘em there. They start listenin’ to the money folks instead of the regular folks. But that’s all the more reason to get out there and vote. We gotta remind ‘em who they work for.
- First off, you gotta register to vote. Can’t vote if you ain’t registered, that’s just common sense. It ain’t hard. Just gotta fill out some papers, tell ‘em where you live and who you are.
- Then, you gotta figure out who to vote for. Now, that’s the tricky part. Lots of talkin’ heads on TV, makin’ all sorts of promises. You gotta listen close, see who’s talkin’ sense and who’s just blowin’ hot air. Don’t just listen to what they say, look at what they do.
- And finally, you gotta actually go vote. Election Day, they call it. Get yourself to the poll, mark your ballot, and let your voice be heard. If you can’t make it on election day see if you can vote early, they have somethin’ called mail-in ballots now too, I hear.
Some folks say votin’ is about feelin’ connected. Like you’re part of somethin’ bigger than yourself. Like you got a say in how things are run. And I guess that’s true. It feels good to know you’re doin’ your part. It feels good to know you ain’t just lettin’ things happen to ya.
But it’s more than just feelin’ good. It’s about takin’ care of your family, your neighbors, your whole community. It’s about makin’ sure we got good schools for the young’uns, clean water to drink, and safe streets to walk on. It’s about makin’ sure the folks in charge are lookin’ out for us, not just themselves.
So, next time you hear someone say “vote or die,” don’t get scared. Just think of it as a reminder. A reminder that you got a voice, and you gotta use it. A reminder that we’re all in this together, and we gotta work together to make things better. A reminder that even a little old lady like me can make a difference, just by markin’ a ballot. And that goes for you too. Don’t just sit there like a bump on a log. Get out there and vote! It’s the right thing to do, and it matters, even if you don’t think it does.
And remember, change don’t happen overnight. It takes time, and it takes effort. But if we all do our part, if we all speak up, if we all vote, then we can make things better. We can build a better future for ourselves and for our children. And that’s worth fightin’ for, ain’t it?
So, don’t be a lazy chicken, go vote! Your voice matters.
