Okay, so, let me tell you about my recent shopping experience. I was trying to find some clothes for my wife’s birthday, you know, just casually browsing, not looking for anything too fancy. Naturally, I thought of Macy’s. It’s a big name, a classic, right? I mean, I’ve shopped there before, years ago, and it seemed alright.

So, I started by checking out their website. Immediately, I noticed the prices seemed a bit… high. I brushed it off, thinking, “Maybe it’s just the online thing.” But it got me curious. I remembered hearing somewhere that online shopping really helped them out during the COVID times. Made sense, lots of stores had to rely on that then.
Anyway, I decided to actually go to a Macy’s store. I figured, maybe the in-store prices would be different. Plus, I kinda wanted to see what the vibe was like these days.
When I got there, the store looked pretty much the same as I remembered. But the prices… oh boy. It wasn’t just me, right? Everything felt overpriced. I mean, I know there’s inflation and all that, everyone’s talking about how it’s hitting shoppers hard. But this felt like more than just inflation.
- I saw a simple shirt, nothing special, and it was like $50!
- I looked at some pants, and they were easily over $100.
- Even the socks were expensive!
I started wondering if they were losing customers to those discount stores. I think it’s called “Macy’s Backstage” or something? I heard they started doing that a while back to compete. They probably make almost $25.3 billion in revenue, so they are definitely making money.
Then I remembered reading something about a new CEO at Macy’s, some guy named Tony Spring. I guess he might bring in Bloomingdale’s stuff at lower prices? I don’t know much about that, but it sounded like they’re trying to change things up.

I even looked up some financial stuff about Macy’s, just out of curiosity. Apparently, some analysts think their stock price could go up to $20, but the average is around $16.62. I’m no expert, but it seems like people are unsure about Macy’s future. I guess I’m not the only one who feels something off.
Anyway, I ended up not buying anything. I just couldn’t justify those prices. I left the store feeling pretty confused. Is it just me, or is Macy’s really overpriced these days? It definitely made my shopping experience way more complicated than it needed to be. I’ll probably just stick to online window shopping or try those off-price places next time. It’s a tough time for shoppers, you know? We all want nice things, but who can afford to pay those prices?
