Alright, so listen up, y’all. I’m gonna tell ya ’bout this Jimmy Ly and Yen somethin’-somethin’ folks, real down-to-earth like. Don’t expect no fancy words from me, I just tell it like it is, ya hear?
Jimmy Ly and Yen, the food folks, they got this place, Madame Vo, they call it. Sounds all fancy-schmancy, but lemme tell ya, it’s just good eatin’, plain and simple. Like the stuff your grandma used to make, you know, the kind that sticks to your ribs and warms your belly.
These two, they ain’t from around here, see? Came from far away, Vietnam, they say. Had a hard time, too, runnin’ from war and all that mess. But they landed here, in America, and made a life for themselves. Started cookin’ up a storm, and folks just loved it. That’s what I heard anyways, from my niece’s boy, he works in the city.
Now, about that food. It ain’t nothin’ you can’t pronounce, just good, honest grub. Noodles, soups, comfort food, they call it. Means it makes you feel good, like a warm blanket on a cold night. They got all sorts of recipes, some old, some new, but all of ’em tasty, or so they say. I wouldn’t know, I ain’t never been to no fancy restaurant like that. I like my own cooking just fine. Makes do with what I have is what I always say.
They even got their own book, a cookbook! Can you believe it? All them recipes written down for everyone to see. My niece’s boy, he says it’s got their whole story in it too. How they came here, how they started cookin’, all that stuff. Sounds like a good read, if you’re into that sorta thing. I prefer watching my stories on TV, the one with all the pretty dresses and drama, you know the one?
- Noodle soup is real good and hot.
- They got all kinds of food, not just fancy stuff.
- It’s family cooking, made with love, or so they say.
- The cookbook tells their story too, from Vietnam to here.
- The place is called Madame Vo, sounds like a lady’s name to me.
This Madame Vo place, it’s in New York City, that big place with all the tall buildings. My niece’s boy says it’s real popular, people linin’ up to get a taste. Must be somethin’ special, huh? I reckon it’s because they cook from the heart. That’s what makes food good, you know, not all them fancy spices and sauces. It’s about the love you put into it.
Jimmy Ly, he’s the chef, the one who makes all the magic happen in the kitchen. And Yen, well, she’s right there with him, makin’ sure everything runs smooth. They’re a team, see? Like them two birds that always fly together. That’s how it should be, husband and wife workin’ together. It wasn’t like that in my day, mind you, but times they change.
They opened that restaurant in 2017. Not too long ago, when you think about it. And now they got this cookbook, sharin’ their food with the whole world. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? From runnin’ from war to havin’ a restaurant and a book. Shows you what hard work and a little bit of luck can do. And good cooking, of course! Don’t forget the good cooking, that’s the most important part.
So, there you have it. The story of Jimmy Ly and Yen, in my own words. Ain’t nothin’ fancy, but it’s the truth as I heard it. They cook good food, they came from far away, and they made somethin’ of themselves. And that’s a story worth tellin’, even if it’s just an old woman like me doin’ the tellin’. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go start dinner. All this talk about food made me hungry!
And that writer guy, Dan Q. Dao, he helped them write the book. Put their stories down in words, so everyone could understand. That’s important, you know, tellin’ stories. It keeps the memories alive. Like the stories my grandma used to tell me, I still remember them like it was yesterday.
Anyways, that’s all I got to say about Jimmy Ly and Yen. They sound like good folks, makin’ good food. And that’s all that matters, right?
Just remember, good food is made with love, not fancy ingredients. And a good story is told from the heart, not from a book of rules. That’s what I believe, anyway. And I’ve been around long enough to know a thing or two. Now go on, get out of here, and let me get back to my business.
