Hey everyone, it’s your boy back again with another little project I’ve been messing around with. So, you know how much of a buzz there’s always been around Princess Diana’s engagement ring, right? Well, I got a little obsessed and decided I had to have my own version. That’s right, I set out to make a replica of Princess Diana’s iconic sapphire ring, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey!
First things first, I started with a ton of research. I mean, we’re talking hours of staring at photos, reading articles, and basically becoming a temporary expert on this ring. It’s a 12-carat oval Ceylon sapphire, surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds, and set in 18-karat white gold. Sounds simple enough, but the devil’s in the details.
Next up, finding the materials. I decided to go for a more budget-friendly version. I found a decent-sized lab-created sapphire that gave me that deep royal blue without the royal price tag. Then came the hunt for the diamonds, or in my case, some really sparkly cubic zirconias. I spent ages browsing online, comparing sizes and cuts to get that perfect halo effect.
- Sourcing the sapphire: This was surprisingly tricky. I wanted that perfect shade of blue, you know?
- Finding the diamonds: Went for a more affordable option here, but still wanted that sparkle!
- Choosing the setting: I opted for sterling silver instead of white gold to keep costs down.
Once I had all my materials, the real fun began. I bought a simple sterling silver ring setting online, something that had the basic shape I needed. Then, with a little help from some jewelry-making tutorials (thank you, internet!), I started putting it all together. It involved a lot of careful bending, setting the stones, and hoping I didn’t mess up too badly.
Honestly, it took a few tries. There were moments when I thought about giving up, especially when I nearly lost one of the tiny zirconias down the drain! But I pushed through, and after a few evenings of work, it was finally done.
And let me tell you, it’s not half bad! Sure, it’s not the real deal, and it certainly didn’t cost me $400,000, but it’s got that same wow factor. It’s big, it’s blue, and it’s sparkly. I’ve worn it out a few times, and people actually stopped to ask me about it.
I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. It’s a fun little piece of jewelry with a cool story behind it. Plus, I learned a new skill and got to channel my inner jeweler. Maybe I’ll tackle another royal replica next – who knows! Let me know what you guys think, and if you’ve ever tried to replicate a famous piece of jewelry, I’d love to hear about it!
