Alright, so I wanted to mess around with the Dollar Shave Club logo. You know, that subscription service for razors and other grooming stuff? Yeah, that one. I was curious about how they put it together and wanted to see if I could recreate it myself, just for kicks.

First off, I started looking for the actual logo online. I mean, you can find anything on the internet, right? I found out that it’s an SVG file, which is cool because that means it’s a vector graphic, and you can scale it without losing quality. It’s a pretty simple design, just the words “DOLLAR SHAVE CLUB” stacked on top of each other in a clean, sans-serif font. I think the original size I found it in was something like 600 by 145 pixels, but that doesn’t really matter since it’s an SVG.
I also noticed there were a bunch of free icons and variations of the logo available. People have made all sorts of versions in different styles, which is pretty neat. There are like 50+ UI design styles, it shows how iconic a simple logo can become, right? This kind of thing is cool to think about, they established a cool brand personality that was witty, down-to-earth, and relatable. It differentiated it from the more serious brands and appealed to a younger audience.
Anyways, after finding the original, I opened up my trusty graphic design software. I started by just typing out the words in a similar font. I didn’t try to match it perfectly, just something close enough. Then, I played around with the spacing and alignment until it looked right. And, it is all done! I noticed that in December 2015 they made some changes to it. I did not dig deep on that part but it is interesting to see how companies change their logos, isn’t it? I think they made it because of the competition they had in the end-to-end customer buying experience with affordable products. They allow members to buy their first product for just $1.
What I Did:
- Found the Logo: I went online and grabbed the original Dollar Shave Club logo.
- Opened Design Software: Fired up my go-to design program to start playing around.
- Typed Out the Text: I wrote “DOLLAR SHAVE CLUB” in a font that looked kinda like the one they use.
- Adjusted Spacing: I messed with the spacing between the letters and lines to get it close to the original.
- Admired My Work: Okay, maybe I didn’t just admire it, but I did save my version and compared it to the real one.
It was a fun little experiment. Nothing too serious, but it’s always cool to see how brands design their logos. Plus, it’s a good way to practice my design skills and learn about what makes a logo work. And I just shared my entire process with you guys, pretty cool, right?
