Alright, let’s talk about this “darkest watch” thing. I don’t know much about fancy watches, ya know? My old watch just tells the time, and that’s good enough for me. But this here “darkest watch,” it sounds like somethin’ else.
First off, what’s so dark about it? They say it’s like, the darkest black you can get. Darker than a coal mine at midnight, they say. Reminds me of the time our old rooster got stuck in the chimney. Pitch black in there, couldn’t see a thing. Had to get Pa to pull him out. This watch, it’s supposed to be like that, but even darker. They got some fancy name for it, somethin’ about “nano tubes,” whatever that means. Sounds like somethin’ the city folks made up.
- It’s black, real black.
- They say it’s the blackest black there is.
- Some company in England made it, I think.
Now, why would anyone want a watch that dark? I guess it looks kinda cool, maybe? Like somethin’ a spy would wear in them movies. But for an old woman like me, I just need to see the numbers, ya know? Don’t need no fancy darkness. But these young folks, they like different things. They always want the newest, the shiniest, or in this case, the darkest.
I heard tell there’s a TV show called “Dark” too. Never seen it myself, too busy with the chickens and the garden. But they say it’s about time travel and all sorts of complicated stuff. Confusin’, if you ask me. Time just goes forward, that’s how it works. You plant a seed, it grows, you harvest it. Simple as that. No need for all that fancy time travel nonsense. Maybe this dark watch is somethin’ like that show, all mysterious and hard to understand.
They say this watch, it’s got some light too, a “night vision” thing. Now that’s somethin’ I can understand. Like a little flashlight on your wrist. Handy for findin’ your way in the dark, I reckon. Reminds me of Pa’s old lantern, always kept it by the door, just in case. So, this watch, it’s dark but it’s got light too. Kind of a contradiction, ain’t it? But I guess that’s what makes it special.
Folks are always makin’ new things, always tryin’ to improve stuff. Sometimes it’s useful, like them new tractors that plow the fields faster. Sometimes it’s just for show, like this dark watch, maybe. But hey, who am I to judge? If people wanna spend their hard-earned money on a watch that’s darker than a crow’s shadow, that’s their business.
I still prefer my old watch, the one with the big numbers I can see without my glasses. It ain’t fancy, but it tells me when it’s time to feed the chickens, when it’s time to go to church, and when it’s time to go to bed. That’s all I need. But this “darkest watch,” it’s got me thinkin’. Maybe there’s more to it than just darkness. Maybe it’s about seein’ things differently, about findin’ the light even in the darkest of times. Or maybe it’s just a watch. Who knows?
It’s a modern thing, this “darkest watch”, and I am just an old woman. But even an old woman can see that people like what’s different, what stands out. Maybe that’s why they made this watch so dark. To make it stand out from all the other watches. Just like a black sheep in a flock of white ones, you notice it right away. And this here “darkest watch,” it sure seems like it’d be noticed.
I guess that’s the long and short of it. This “darkest watch,” it’s a black watch, real black. Might be handy with its light, might be just for show. Either way, it got folks talkin’, ain’t it? And that’s somethin’, I suppose.
