Alright, so you wanna know about this fella, Ossendrijver, huh? Sounds like one of them fancy names, like them city folks use. Don’t know much about him myself, but I heard some things, ya know, from the telly and them magazines my grandaughter leaves around.

Who is this Ossendrijver fellow anyway? Well, from what I gather, he’s some big shot designer, makes clothes for men. Fancy clothes, mind you, not the kind you’d wear to feed the chickens. They say he worked for a real high-falutin’ brand called Lanvin, over in Europe. For like, ten years or somethin’. Ten years! That’s a long time to be makin’ britches, I tell ya.
This Lanvin place, it sounds real posh. They say he made the men’s clothes all new and different there. Like, he took what some other fella named Elbaz did and made it his own. I guess that’s a good thing, right? Like makin’ a new quilt out of old scraps, but way fancier.
- He worked for Lanvin, a real fancy place.
- He designed men’s clothes, not overalls though.
- He made the clothes new and different, not like the stuff you find at the feed store.
Now, you’d think a fella makin’ fancy clothes would be all stuck up, sittin’ in some ivory tower. But no, this Ossendrijver, he likes lookin’ at regular folks. Says he gets his ideas from the streets and them second-hand shops. Can you believe it? I guess even fancy folks can find good stuff in the bargain bin.
He says he likes watchin’ people. Me too! I sit on my porch and watch folks go by all day. Maybe I should start makin’ clothes, ha! Just kiddin’. But it’s funny how he gets his ideas the same way I do, just lookin’ around. He probably sees things different though, bein’ all fancy and all.
He seems like a down-to-earth fella, this Ossendrijver. He says fashion shouldn’t be too complicated. Just needs a good vibe and some trust, he says. That makes sense, I reckon. Even makin’ a good pot of stew needs a good vibe and trustin’ your ingredients.

And now he’s workin’ for some American company. They say it’s more “commercial,” whatever that means. Sounds like he’s makin’ clothes for more people now, not just them fancy Europeans. He says he’s learnin’ a lot, which is good. You’re never too old to learn, I always say. Even if you’re makin’ fancy pants.
He had an interview with some magazine, Vogue, I think it was. They asked him ten questions. Ten questions! I bet they were all about clothes and fashion and stuff. I wouldn’t know what to ask him. Maybe how to get a stain out of a good shirt?
So, there you have it. That’s all I know about this Ossendrijver fella. He’s a fancy clothes maker who likes watchin’ people and ain’t afraid to learn new things. Sounds alright to me. Maybe I’ll even buy one of his shirts one day, if I win the lottery. But then again, maybe I’ll just stick to my overalls. They’re comfortable, and they don’t need no fancy designer.
He talks about a “good atmosphere” and “trust.” Well, I know a thing or two about that. You need a good atmosphere to grow good tomatoes, and you gotta trust the weather’s gonna cooperate. Maybe fashion ain’t so different from farmin’ after all. Just different kinds of seeds, I guess. His seeds are threads and buttons, mine are corn and beans.
He’s moved from Europe to America now. That’s a big move! Like movin’ from the henhouse to the barn. Bigger pond, more fish, as they say. He’s learnin’ new things, meetin’ new folks, probably eatin’ different food. Maybe he’ll even learn to like grits! One can only hope.

I reckon he’s a hard worker, this Ossendrijver. You don’t get to be a big shot designer by sittin’ around and doin’ nothin’. He probably spends hours and hours sketchin’ and sewin’ and fussin’ over every little detail. Just like I spend hours in the garden, pullin’ weeds and waterin’ plants. Hard work is hard work, no matter what you’re doin’.
He seems like a good man. A fella with his heart in the right place. He likes watching folks, he wants things to be good, and he ain’t afraid of hard work. That’s more than you can say for some folks in this world. So, hats off to ya, Ossendrijver, whoever you are. You keep on makin’ them fancy clothes, and I’ll keep on growin’ my tomatoes. We both gotta do what we gotta do.
