Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this here Coco Chanel, or whatever her name is. Folks keep talkin’ about her, so I figured I’d put in my two cents.
Who’s this Coco gal, anyway?
Now, from what I hear, this Coco, she wasn’t just some fancy lady sellin’ clothes. They say she started this whole thing way back in 1910. Can you believe it? 1910! That’s a long, long time ago. Even before I was born, and that’s sayin’ somethin’. They say she made this brand, this Chanel thing, into somethin’ big. More than just a name, they say. Like it stands for somethin’ fancy, somethin’ new, somethin’ that just sticks around, you know?
- Started in 1910
- Not just a brand, a symbol
- Fancy, new, and sticks around
What’d she make? Clothes, I guess.
They say she made all sorts of things. There’s this suit, the Chanel suit they call it. And purses, them little quilted ones. And sparkly stuff, you know, the kind that ain’t real gold but looks like it. And dresses, black ones, short ones. They call ’em “little black dresses.” Imagine that! I had a black dress once, wore it to my cousin’s funeral. But hers was supposed to be fancy, I guess. Not for funerals. She wanted to make clothes comfy for womenfolk, that’s what I heard. Not all them tight things they used to wear. Good for her, I say. Women got enough to worry about without bein’ squeezed into somethin’ uncomfortable.
This “Chanel suit” and them “little black dresses”
This here Chanel suit, it’s famous, they say. And them little black dresses too. Everybody knows about ’em. Even me, and I don’t know nothin’ about fashion. She made ’em simple, I heard. Nothin’ too fussy. And comfy, like I said. That’s important, you know. Can’t be doin’ chores in somethin’ that pinches and pokes. And they say she changed the whole fashion thing. Made it all different. I don’t know how she done it, but good for her.
Smelly stuff too? Perfume, they call it.
And then there’s this smell-good stuff. Perfume, they call it. Chanel Number 5. Five! Why they call it that, I don’t know. But folks seem to like it. Spend a lot of money on it too, from what I hear. Imagine that, smellin’ good costin’ so much. Back in my day, smellin’ good meant you just washed up good with soap and water.
Pockets and straps, oh my!
And these here purses, they ain’t just any old purses. They got them little diamonds sewed on, all fancy-like. And chains! Sometimes with leather, sometimes not. You can spot ’em a mile away, they say. I guess that’s the point, huh? So everyone knows you got a Chanel bag. Like I said, fancy folks and their fancy things.
Horses and shiny things?
They say she got the idea for them diamond things from horses. Horses! Go figure. And that shiny metal stuff on the purses? That’s supposed to be somethin’ special too. I don’t know much about horses or shiny things, but if she liked ’em, good for her. It seems to have worked out alright for her, this whole Chanel thing.
Comfy clothes, that’s the ticket.
She used to make clothes even way back when she was younger, with all this shirring stuff, whatever that is. And all kinds of flowy materials like tulle and chiffon. Sounded like she always liked makin’ things easy to wear. She really was set on makin’ clothes comfortable, I reckon. Can’t blame her for that. Like I said, comfort’s important. Especially when you got a long day of work ahead of you.
Timeless, they say?
Folks keep sayin’ her stuff is “timeless.” That means it don’t get old, I guess. Like it still looks good even after all these years. Well, I don’t know about that. Fashion changes so fast these days. But I guess if people are still buyin’ it, it must be doin’ somethin’ right. This Coco, she must’ve been a smart cookie, that’s for sure.
More than just a pretty face.
So there you have it. That’s what I know about this Coco Chanel. Sounds like she was a hard worker, made some fancy clothes and smelly stuff, and somehow got everyone talkin’ about her. And she did it all by makin’ things simple and comfortable, which is more than I can say for some of them fancy designers. More than just a pretty face, I’d say. She had some gumption, that Coco gal.
