I recently had a little incident with my Apple Watch. Yeah, I dropped it. Right on the concrete. I was so mad at myself! The screen was all cracked up, and I was pretty bummed out.
So, the first thing I did was to check if I had that AppleCare+ thing. Turns out, I did! I remembered adding it on when I bought the watch. What a lifesaver! I went online and looked up what to do. It said I could take it to an Apple Store or mail it in for repair.
Since there’s an Apple Store not too far from me, I decided to just drive over there. I made an appointment online first – didn’t want to wait around all day. When I got to the store, the Genius Bar folks were super helpful.
They checked out my watch, confirmed I had AppleCare+, and told me it would be a small fee to fix the screen, much less than if I didn’t have the insurance. I think it was something around $69, which was way better than the hundreds it could have cost. And with my insurance, I have unlimited repairs if I have an accident, which is great peace of mind.
- Made an appointment at the Apple Store.
- Went to the Genius Bar.
- Confirmed AppleCare+ coverage.
- Paid a small fee for screen repair.
They said it would take a few days to fix, but I got a call just two days later saying it was ready. Picked it up, and it looked good as new! No more cracked screen. Phew!
I’m so glad I got that AppleCare+ when I bought the watch. It saved me a ton of money and a big headache. I learned my lesson, though. I went straight out and bought a screen protector and a tough case. Hopefully, I won’t be needing to use that AppleCare+ again anytime soon, but it’s good to know it’s there just in case.
I also did some research later on. I found out that if I didn’t have AppleCare+, fixing a busted Apple Watch screen could cost anywhere from $25 all the way up to $400 or more! Crazy, right?
And it’s not just about the screen. I read that water damage is another big one. If you don’t have insurance, fixing a water-logged Apple Watch can cost a fortune. And if your watch gets stolen or totally wrecked, insurance can help you out there, too.
The Bottom Line
Having some kind of smartwatch insurance, like AppleCare+, is a real good idea. It gives you that peace of mind, knowing you won’t have to empty your wallet if something happens to your watch. So if you’re thinking about getting an Apple Watch, definitely consider adding on that AppleCare+. It’s worth it, trust me!
